My appreciation goes to Cimen by Vibeke Sand
on August 11, 2013

She is my professional lifeline to the Turkish languages, and I can't say it better than several of her students already have done.I am Danish and have been in Bodrum for 10 years now; a long time as tourist! My Turkish is 1000s of interpreted words and my brains mixture in my mouth, not really understandable for other than my friends and the bright ones :-)
On top of that I meet my invisible walls by moving from my family and home country. e.g. a part of me act like an old rebel who does not want something as boring as going to school, means change from being the professional survivor to be the learner as an open child. REALLY a challenge for Cimen since I turn up anyway, first for 3 month in the autumn and currently for 1½ months.
The amazing part is that she can get into me. With her warmth, her fun, and her professional coaching which she can parallel to the language education - And by giving me a childrens book to practice the language sound :-) . So far I feel that I meet more of the bright people now, which must mean that I have got hold of some real grammatically Turkish.
With warmest recommendation!

One year ago when I moved to Bodrum I thought: “Turkish, like all the other languages I speak, is composed of an alphabet whose letters combine to make words, which then combine using grammar to make sentences. How hard could it be?”. But the similarity to languages I speak ends there. Learning to speak Turkish has presented quite a challenge. Then I met CIMEN and I understood that Turkish is a logical language, well-structured and there are very few exceptions to keep in mind.
Cimen is excellent and the informal atmosphere makes the classes really enjoyable. The lessons are well balanced, with both easy parts and difficult parts, alternating serious and fun texts, grammar and vocabulary, reading, writing, conversation and homework checking. You can never tell how time passes! Day by day, lesson by lesson I’m more confident, so after just 6 months, with one weekly meeting, I can carry a conversation.
Cimen is very patient, positive and fun, not pushy but also focused to make you learn. I couldn’t make a better choice! Highly recommended!

Recommendation for Çimen Sevanç by Leigh Tatlici

on May 17, 2012

I have been going for Turkish lessons with Çimen for the last 6 months. She was recommended to me by a friend and I can honestly say that with Çimen's brilliant teaching skills, my Turkish is far better than I expected it to be - I now have the confidence to carry out conversations in Turkish and I find myself eagerly awaiting her next lesson to find out what else I can learn. I live in Yalikavak and am more than happy to drive into Bodrum for my lessons with Çimen. She gives lessons for people at all levels. If you are thinking of going for Turkish lessons, go to Çimen. You will not regret it.

We can´t recommend Cimen highly enough. We started as beginners (arriving from Denmark)almost a year ago, and her methods and mixture of activities keeps us still interested. She is using different learning styles matching the individual students preferences and abilities. We are now able to understand our Turkish neighbours and make small conversations.Shopping is no problem any more.

Cimen is even able to make grammar interesting, which is quite an achivement! We had never thought that it would be fun learning Turkish - but actually it is with Cimen as teacher.

Cimen’s natural warmth together with her enthusiasm for teaching makes learning Turkish a delight!

We’ve been trying to learn Turkish on and off (mostly off) for 20 years and still regard ourselves as ‘beginners’. As retirees we currently live half the year here in Yalıkavak and the other half in Australia, having moved there from England in 2002. Up until this year we haven’t been able to join a Turkish class here because they all close down for the summer and don’t start up again until October, which is when like the swallows we migrate to warmer climes. Luckily, we had subscribed to the Bodrum Bulletin early in the year and noticed that there was a Turkish class going all through the summer. We telephoned Çimen as soon as we got here at the beginning of May and were invited to attend one of her ‘false beginner’ classes as guests. Çimen is very careful to group her students in the right ability level and we were very impressed from the start with her friendly personality and professionalism. We wholly endorse the recommendations posted already and would like to add our own. Çimen is a qualified teacher of English as a Foreign Language as well as Turkish and her lessons are meticulously prepared and fun. We feel we have definitely made progress and our only regret about heading back to Oz for 6 months is that we will not be able to keep up the practice. We mentioned this to Çimen and she suggested that we could keep up the lessons via email and skype and is quite excited by the challenge. There are no limits to the lengths she will go to to help her students! So if you’ve been thinking about starting or getting back to learning Turkish you won’t find a better teacher anywhere on the peninsula.

I have used Çimen to learn Turkish and she is excellent. She adjusts her lessons to your own individual requirements, reacting to the inquisitive brain in a calm organized and methodical way. Her English is brilliant for explaining everything, and her explanation of Turkish grammar and structures is clear and easy to understand. She is very positive and encouraging and a joy to learn from ;) Highly recommended, couldn’t recommend her enough!

I can thoroughly recommend Cimen as a Turkish teacher for English speaking clients. I started lessons with her at the end of December as a beginner. As the other reviewer said, she doesn't follow a course book but instead asks the Group what they want to learn and will go at the speed the class wants. She only runs small classes so everyone gets a good chance to practice what we are learning. Something I think very important as most of us want to be able to understand the spoken word and be able to speak the language. I really enjoy the way she teaches and she makes it more fun than work with interesting quizzes thrown in to test us. Somehow her teaching is making the complicated grammar stick. Highly recommended

Çimen is good at teaching Turkish to English speakers as she is bi-lingual so can explain (especially to Beginners) in English. She also teaches English so she understands the differences between the languages and can explain them.

We are in our second winter with her, because we like her personality, her method, her mixture of different activities to keep us interested, her patience and (perhaps above all) her willingness to listen to us and guide us where we want to go at our own pace. She does not work her way through a course book, but asks us what we would like to do. This winter we are concentrating on speaking, listening and using the language, rather than learning more grammar and vocabulary. People have been kind enough to say that my Turkish has improved and considering all my previous attempts, much of the credit must go to Çimen.

Çünkü hazırlıktan, orta birinci sınıfa geçtiğimde; an angel spread her wings and brightened my dark world! ((:
